A cheer team compete at an ICE Extravaganza Cheer and Dance eventICE strive to offer fair and inclusive competition opportunities to all. We appreciate how stressful it can be as a coach at competitions, which is why we are always looking for ways to take the pressure off both coaches and performers.

Continuing on from the success of last season, we will continue to notify coaches of any legality deductions that have been issued to your team, before the awards ceremony. Additionally, for cheer teams only, we will also issue ranges.

How will it work?

After your team has performed, and the judges have finished the scoring process, copies of your deduction sheets (and ranges, where applicable) will be made available to collect from the ICE registration desk. You may need to leave around 30 mins (or longer at busy times) before you approach the registration desk to collect your sheets. It is your responsibility to collect your deductions sheets.

If your team has received an infraction that you wish to discuss, you may approach the judges table at any point during the competition, from behind the barrier at the end of the table (usually near the playback station). Please wait behind the barrier for a judge to come to you. We politely request you attempt to discuss your infractions at the earliest opportunity, because if everyone waits until the end of the session this may delay awards. Thank you for your understanding.

We hope that this process will give each coach the opportunity to contest a deduction if a mistake has been made. If the legality is valid, we feel that making you aware of the deduction will prepare you for the results and will allow you the chance to ask for an explanation, which will aid coach education.

Please remember this process is designed to help you; please respect the judges, as they are only humans trying to help. The ultimate goal of legality judges is to ensure a fair competition. Let’s speak to each other with kindness and respect.

So, please remember to collect your deductions sheets – if you don’t check them, they cannot be contested. We will announce during the event what the cut-off time will be for these to be collected. We will not be able to amend any deductions once results are awarded.

After an Event

Please note: the ICE scoring team will not change any legalities or deductions or scores after each session. We will only discuss this on the day of the event.
